The first English Canadian settlers gave names to the many corners or crossroads where, at another time, there were post offices, general stores, churches, and even mills. Some of these places almost became villages in their own right, though there is not much left to show of their past life.
As the English Canadians left, the places they had named disappeared from maps to be replaced by French names chosen by the locals.
