At the crossroads of le Rang Hamilton and Highway 267, Millfield was the location of Davidson mill and later, the Kidd family mill and the Thomas McKenzie mill in 1831. Another Thomas McKenzie (probably from the same family) was a mailman as well as a contractor in 1892. In 1892, there were about 75 people living there.
The Hamilton Road, which is also le Rang 4 of Inverness, was named in honour of the Duke of Hamilton, who expropriated the settlers from his lands on the Isles of Arran in Scotland. He financed their trip over and arranged free land grants with the Colonial Office. Each man over the age of 21 was to receive one hundred acres of free land.
In 1851, a one room protestant school was built in Millfield. The school burnt in 1871 and was rebuilt not far from the first one. A third school was built in 1927 at the corner of Hamilton and Cruickshank roads. Pupils attended this one until 1944.
